One day Workshop

Common Bird Monitoring Programme (CBMP)

At Nagpur

Organised by

Bombay Natural History Society, Mumbai & Wild-CER, Nagpur

We are always discussing Urbanization, Industrialization, Increasing the Automobile use are threats to avifauna.  But we did not find out which reason behind decline and rise of bird species around us and therefore we are not able to find the solution of these problems. This is because of lack of vital data regarding this avifauna. Decreasing the number of House Sparrow from the city is one example. There are many species have to face the same problem. So that to know the current status of birds, what problem they are facing it must necessary to monitor these species. Common Bird Monitoring Programme will helpful for to gather this information.

Common Bird Monitoring is a citizen science Programme, objectives of the programme is to involve more and more people to observe the birds which in their backyard or where they are regular visiting, there are several initiatives where people are reporting their sighting.  It must necessary to do this work through the scientific method so that we get more authentic data which is useful to analysis and reached out some result. To observe the birds basically, we use a method which is Line Transect method. This is easy and with the help of them to note down the species.
