Birdwatching Trail (Monsoon Birding)

Birdwatching trail ( Monsoon Birding)

The birdwatching trail was organized on 24th June 2023 by leading a group of ten participants. Bhandup Pumping Station (BPS) is a famous birding area in Mumbai adjacent to the salt pans and mangrove area which provide shelter to many migratory as well as resident birds.

The response from participants was encouraging Mr. Nandkishor Dudhe Programme Officer (BNHS-EIACP) explained about the bird diversity present in that area. The highlight of this trail was to sight the Baya Weaver birds which are best known for their hanging retort shaped nests woven from leaves. The males were busy building nests and all the participants were thrilled to see them in action. The trail was free of cost as we wanted to encourage participation from all age groups (employed, unemployed and students).

The trail ended by an appreciation for the habitat by not littering during the trail as well as by following ethics while visiting a biodiversity rich area. The BNHS-EIACP staff Ms. Natasha Girkar Mr. Suraj Gosavi, and Ms. Pooja Gosavi helped in organizing the events.

Thanks, and regards,
