PAST EVENT

Dangs Bird Festival

Purna Wildlife Sanctuary was declared in July, 1990 in order to protect the forest in northern part of the Dangs district in South Gujarat. Purna WLS preserves one of the last remaining patches of moist deciduous forest in the Western Ghats of Gujarat and supports a gamut of flora and fauna of very high evolutionary value.

For an eco-tourist wanting to enjoy birds of moist deciduous forest mixed with bamboo, this is the best place to visit. The sanctuary is home to more than 150 species of birds including Crimson Sunbird, Indian Paradise Fly-catcher, Lesser Golden-back Woodpecker, Racket-tailed Drongo, Minivets, King-fishers, Leaf birds etc. Western-Ghat bird species like Malabar Trogon and other winter migrants like Warblers and Fly-catchers are a common sight here. The recent sightings of the Critically Endangered Forest Owlet from Purna WLS have enhanced the ecological value of this area.

With an aim to promote the area as a bird sanctuary, Dangs Bird Festival has been organized in collaboration with Ahwa (North) Division Forest Department.
