"GRASSLAND BIRD SURVEY AND USE OF MOBILE APPLICATION FOR DATA COLLECTION "

Environmental Information System on Avian Ecology at the Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS-ENVIS) Mumbai, Maharashtra Forest Department and the Maharashtra Pakshimitra Sanghatana are jointly organizing an online webinar.

BNHS-ENVIS has initiated the citizen science programme for the grassland bird survey. The objectives of the programme are to involve more and more people to observe the grassland birds where they visit regularly. There are several existing good initiatives where people are recording birds. We need to be able to accurately monitor trends for grassland birds. Consequently, we have launched the mobile application for data collection.

The mobile application allows the field researchers to add their observations and automatically generates the date/time and GPS coordinates. Traditionally researchers have been using printed datasheets followed by tedious job of manual data entry. To address this issue, scientists from the Bustard programme of the BNHS joined hands with BNHS-ENVIS RP and developed an app for study of grassland birds. This app will help in saving paper as well as time to enter the vast data collected during field surveys. APK file of the app and soft copy of mobile application manual will be share during the webinar.
