Workshop on Bird Identification and Basic Ornithology

The Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) organized a two-day workshop on Bird Identification and Basic Ornithology in the Context of Ecotourism at Kihim Village, Raigad. Nineteen participants from diverse age groups and backgrounds, including local residents, students, and birdwatchers, came together to enhance their skills in bird identification and avian ecology.
Resource materials such as a Maharashtra bird brochure and the BUCEROS newsletter were distributed. Programme Officer Mr. Nandkishor Dudhe (BNHS-EIACP) conducted sessions covering migratory patterns, wader species identification, and the use of the eBird platform.
BNHS Director Mr. Kishor Rithe engaged in interactive discussions, while a "Know Your Birds" quiz added a fun learning element. A field session at Kihim Beach included hands-on identification of species like Sand Plovers, Ruddy Turnstones, Gulls, and Terns. Mr. Aditya Karve, Project Assistant, ensured smooth logistics.
Participants expressed interest in continued involvement in bird conservation and praised the workshop for empowering them with practical knowledge and conservation values.
