Forest Owlet Conservation Day
In celebration of Forest Owlet Conservation Day on October 24, 2024, BNHS-EIACP engaged with 130 students from Z P School in Mahuli village, Shahapur tehsil, Thane district, Maharashtra. The school is located near the Tansa Wildlife Sanctuary, where the Forest Owlet was first detected in 2014. This species is listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List. The team presented a special documentary about the Forest Owlet, which the students thoroughly enjoyed. Afterwards, Programme Officer Mr. Nandkishor Dudhe led an interactive session on bird ecology and identification, along with a Q&A segment. Brochures about birds in Maharashtra and bird posters were also distributed. Natasha Girkar, Information Officer, and Niraj Patel, IT Officer from BNHS-EIACP, supported the event. Everyone shared a hope that the Forest Owlet Athene blewitti thrives in Tansa’s forests and that its habitat is preserved across its current range in Central India and the northern Western Ghats.
Thanks & Regards,
Team BNHS-EIACP
